Route planning in Japan can be pretty simple. Typically it involves 3 steps: Planning your route, taking the right exit from the station, and getting to your final destination once you’re outside. Tokyo Skytree is one of the coolest places in Tokyo, and luckily, getting there is pretty easy if you pre-plan.
STEP 1 – ROUTE OPTIONS
Taking the train to Skytree is usually the best option, because there are many route options. Your final station will be either Oshiage Station (also called Skytree-mae Station) or Oshiage Station.
Oshiage Station is served by the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line and the Keikyu/Toei Asakusa Line. Tokyo Skytree Station is served by the Tobu Skytree Line.
One way to select the best route is to find the station below that is closest to you, navigate to it, then follow the suggested route to Skytree.
From Shibuya Station
Take the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line (orange line) to Asakusa Station. From Asakusa Station, transfer to the Tobu Skytree Line and take it to Tokyo Skytree Station. The trip takes about 35 minutes.
From Shinagawa Station
Take the Toei Asakusa Line (served by Keikyu) to Oshiage Station (also called Skytree Station). The trip takes about 25 minutes.
From Tokyo Station
Take the JR Sobu Rapid Line to Kinshicho Station. Transfer to the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line (purple line). Take the Hanzomon Line to Oshiage Station (also called Skytree Station). The trip takes about 11 minutes.
From Ueno Station
Take the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line to Asakusa Station. From Asakusa Station, transfer to the Tobu Skytree Line and take it to Tokyo Skytree Station. The trip takes about 8 minutes.
There is also a Skytree Shuttle bus that goes from Ueno Station to Tokyo Skytree, but the train is typically faster. The bus from Ueno Station has other stops and takes about 30 minutes.
STEP 2 – STATION EXIT
From Oshiage Station: Take Exit A2 or B3.
From Tokyo Skytree Station: There is only one exit and it puts you at the base of the tower.
STEP 3 – OUTSIDE THE STATION
From Oshiage Station: Walk west (just walk towards the tower). You can either enter through Solamachi Mall using the elevator or go up the concrete steps to the 4th floor.
From Tokyo Skytree Station: Walk up the large set of concrete steps toward the tower.
If you take the steps, you will pass through a breezeway lined with restaurants (McDonalds, Cold Stone, etc.). Enter the breezeway, turn left by McDonalds, then turn right when you exit the breezeway. The entrance to Skytree will be on the right.
The entrance to the tower is on the 4th floor.
